The Ford F-150 has been the top selling truck in America for over three decades. Even after more than 30 years as a leader in the pickup truck market, the latest F-150s are better than ever, if that is possible. The F-150 was recently awarded Motor Trend Magazine’s 2012 Truck Of The Year, and Ford doesn’t appear to be trying to relinquish that title anytime soon.
As well as being Motor Trend’s Truck Of The Year and the number one selling truck in America, Ford’s F-150 is arguably the best winter vehicle in the world. Much of this could be attributed to Ford’s infamously tough construction and seemingly indestructible rear-ends, which have been a staple of their trucks for eons. But believe it or not, Ford was able to improve some features on their renowned F-150 line.
The new F-150 boast stronger powetrains like a 3.7-liter V6 engine with 302 hp, and a 6100-lb. max tow rating. They also come with a 5.0-liter V8 that has a max tow rating of 10,000 lbs., a 5.4 V8 with 380 hp and the option to upgrade to a mind-boggling 440 hp; and the 6.2-liter V8 has a 411 hp with a max tow rating of 11,300 lbs. Last but not least, the F-150′s smallest powertrain, encompasses a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with 365 hp, and max tow rating of 11,300. With advancements like these, it’s no secret why the new F-150 is the cause for 40 percent of all F-150 retail sales.
Other F-150 enhancements include a two-speed automatic 4X4 system to improve handling in inclement weather. This feature makes off-roading feel like a ride on the highway! Although the only F-150 models with this option are the Lariat, King Ranch, Harley-Davidson and Platinum, this feature helped elevate the F-150 to the status of top winter truck.
As for the future of Ford’s F150, skies the limit! They not only beefed up this line’s horsepower, they redesigned it with smoother contours and sleeker aerodynamics. For all the reasons I discussed, there should be no surprise why Ford trucks are far ahead of their competition. And as for which competitor is in second place behind Ford, the runner-up would probably be insulted to be mentioned. Through their latest trucks Ford made a statement that they will continue to get you to your destinations, by making it known that the F-150 isn’t going anywhere soon!
